Dan Bourqui, Nilton Neves, Bruno Passos, Salba & I rode together back in March or early April in the Badlands. It was epic. The Brazilian magazine ‘Trip’ was posting an article on pool skating and the foreclosure mess. Shameless self-promotion aside, this is the resulting article. Its in portuguese so….you know— good luck. Thanks to Dan Bourqui for shooting the images. -Skate- Ozzie

Joseph Campbell wrote, “Nothing is exciting, when you know the outcome.” Ride something different today. Do something completely out of the norm. Try a trick that you never thought you would be able to do. Work on Smith grinds…yeah, lets work on Smith grinds. Skate. It’s Sunday. -Thanks Brandon Wong for the photograph. _Ozzie

Tom Knox
I dropped my cell phone into water yesterday. Such abuse & technology never walk hand-in-hand. I did the quick ‘dismantle, dry-out’ to little avail. You would think that for a pool draining machine like me, I could get a bit of water out of a cell phone….but alas! no such luck. I don’t have money to eat half the time, much less buy a new cell phone. Life. I cursed in 4 languages when it happened. Very profane words were uttered. Since I was in such a foul mood last evening & ranting in colorful language, I figured we would keep things in black & white. Here is Tom Knox, high and dry at the lip of the pool. Keep an eye on your cell phone today. Thanks to MRZ for the photograph- SKATE-Ozzie

Yesterday was a monotony of concrete roadways and people clamoring in crowds around the beaches. Labor day. The end of summer. ‘They’ all go home to wherever ‘they’ are from and resume the lie. We clean up the beach cities & heave a collective sigh of relief. We have our beaches back. The sun was bright, yet I felt empty as I was preoccupied with internal issues. New job, few friends, little money….and on and on. With this interior monologue playing in my head (“Woe is me”), I opened an email from MRZ. This photograph and others were sent for my use. It spoke to me of all the great things in my life. Pools, pool pals, the smile of a certain cute girl, the sun beaming down daily, food in my stomach & the knowledge that I am not alone in feeling despair at times. Not to put too fine a point on it, this photograph reminded me to always stay in gratitude. I must be grateful for what I do have! Thanks to MRZ for the inspiration & photograph. Sometimes we reach a turning point; a threshold moment. We can stop our rapid movement forward…or we can continue, throwing caution to the wind. With great risk is great reward. Rainer Rilke wrote, “Wie viel ist aufzuleiden!” (How much suffering there is to get through.) If it causes pain, it may still be good for you. Pain is ‘weakness’ leaving your body. Remember the turning point. Thank you to Zach Petschek for the photographs.Skate-Ozzie

There is a dark depression overwhelming me at times. Around us, the world burns & people live in a vacuum. They have their noses buried in their cell phones, texting, texting, texting. They buy homes & cars they cannot afford. They go broke appearing rich. The women seem entitled & the men cower before them. ‘Retrouve lelan joi de vivre’. We must find again, our joy in life. Just like Adam 12 & Brendan Klein in the enclosed photographs, I will be riding my skateboard this weekend, content in the knowledge of what I am. Nothing. I look to the sky and see a god no longer on the job. I wonder if its all just a bad joke. Have a good one- Thanks to Dan Bourqui for the photographs. Skate-Ozzie

Sometimes, we make decisions that cause us pain. drinking too much, talking to girls, (when we should know better by now)….ugh! or staying on when bailing proves to be the better option. Kyle shows us in the video clip that a shit sandwich can be a nutritious part of a tasty breakfast. thanks peter king/zach petschek for photographs.skate-Ozzie

Peter King filmed Salba, Reul & others last winter and with the subsequent demise of every single one of the pools depicted, it is now safe to show the video. Enjoy….my pool pals. Thanks to Dan Bourqui for the photograph & Peter King for the ‘quicktime’ video- Skate- Ozzie
